City Council Sexcapades
In an email sent over the weekend to all 11 members of the Charlotte City Council, Mayor Anthony Foxx warned his colleagues to not sexually harass city staff. The letter makes no reference to either who might be doing the alleged harassing, or who is being harassed. Even with a $70,000-a-year spokesperson, Foxx is declining to offer further details or specifics.
A majority of the council has been encamped in Washington, DC, for a conference the last several days. Not that sexual harassment was any stranger to DC before they arrived.
Foxx’s e-mail in full:
“Dear City Council Members: We owe the citizens of Charlotte our very best effort every day, and I appreciate all of you for your investment of time and energy in making our city a better place. The responsibility, of course, extends to our personal treatment of staff as well, including not engaging in any form of sexual harassment towards them. Any such behavior cannot and will not be tolerated by me, our City Council or the public we serve, and I ask you to keep that in mind.”

Why not just sent a list of the ten commandments instead? Why should you have to tell grown people how to behave? Are our city council members that immature?

Sorry, Mayor Foxx, but your approach to this was not very well thought out at all. Now, thanks to your shotgun approach, all the males in the City Council are under a shadow of suspicion as being THE culprit. (How many marriages are being needlessly strained by the misguided way this problem was handled.
Ever think of just quietly going to the guilty party and having a private “talking to” with him??

Good point Mel. This is one move that is totally bizarre. It’s almost like one of those emails you type up in anger or sadness, but then accidentally hit the “send” button before calming down and thinking about it.
That email wasn’t the sign of good leadership. Totally wrongly played.
